In 1999, the Dortmund Chamber of Crafts opened a college and professional laboratories in the Hansemann training center, unique in Europe. From 1997 to 2000, extensive renovations were carried out on the former "Hansemann" coal mine site in Dortmund in an area of approximately 47,000 square metres.

The previous video surveillance system had frequent failures of the cameras and other components of the system. The company Weidner Elektrotechnik GmbH in Dortmund was consulted to resolve these problems. Replacement or repair of existing devices proved impossible.

The new video surveillance system was not only to provide more up-to-date image quality in existing locations, but also to integrate additional modern functions, such as the ability for the caretaker to see a real-time overview of the premises, accident prevention during manual training, the research function to be used in the event of an accident and monitoring in accordance with current legislation on data protection in residential buildings.

Using most video surveillance systems, these needs would have entailed high costs for laying network cables. This was avoided by using Urmet’s AHD video surveillance system.

AHD cameras use the existing two-wire structure in buildings and currently provide high resolutions of up to 5 MPX. AHD cameras have been integrated into the video surveillance system via an AHD hybrid video recorder. In areas without or with low light, the camera’s internal infrared illuminators allow for detailed night-time images without noise. In total, a sustainable and affordable solution was created with 21 cameras and 2 HVR.

Together with the company Weidner Elektrotechnik GmbH, the project was successfully completed. Grothe, a German subsidiary of the Urmet Group, supported the design, consultancy and subsequent commissioning. The installation was carried out by the specialized electrical company. An excellent solution for a complex and equally exciting project.
